Telling Your Employees About the Tax Cut

Millions of American employees don’t know why their paychecks are bigger. Help us spread the word by explaining to them that their bigger paychecks are a result of tax cuts.

House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former CKE Restaurants CEO Andy Puzder, and JCN President and CEO Alfredo Ortiz participated in a conference call to discuss the importance of employers educating their employees about the origin of their tax cuts. They explained that the only way for small businesses to avoid the onslaught of new regulations and taxes that would come with a Nancy Pelosi-led House of Representatives is by voters learning who’s responsible for their tax cuts.

You can listen to a recording of the call here.

This sample letter, which includes a link to a short explainer video, should be a great starting point, but feel free to customize it for your company’s specific needs.

Hi [EMPLOYEE NAME],

Over the last couple of pay periods, you’ve probably noticed more money in your paycheck. I hope you’re enjoying it. You deserve every dollar you earn.

You may be wondering, where did this money come from? It’s the result of federal tax cuts passed by Congressional Republicans and signed into law by President Trump last December.

Recently, the IRS updated its tax withholding tables due to these tax cuts to take less money out of your paycheck. That’s why you see the boost in take-home pay. [Some of you have also received a raise in your gross pay because businesses like ours also received a tax cut, which has allowed us to pass along our savings to you in the form of higher pay.]

These tax cuts offer significant relief to employees like you. They also double the child tax credit, which means if you have kids, expect even more money next spring when you file your taxes.

Recognizing that hardworking people like you drive the economy, the tax cuts are focused on middle-class earners. The wealthy actually end up paying a higher share of income tax due to the cuts. But the cuts do reduce the tax burden on businesses, allowing them to expand, hire, and flourish.

This business growth, combined with the extra money in your paychecks, means more money stays here in this community, helping drive the economy boom. This is good for everyone.

I just wanted to give you a heads up, in case you were wondering. Here is a short video also explaining your tax cut-induced bigger paychecks.
